Description

Smecta Diosmectite assists in the management of acute diarrhoea in adults, children and babies. It contains diosmectite, a natural alumino-magnesium silicate powder with adsorbent properties. It also assists in oral rehydration in infants and children.

Direction and Dosage: To assist in the management of acute diarrhoea. For all ages. please refer to the leaflet. How to take Smecta: Do not share medicines prescribed for you with any other person. Always take Smecta exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has instructed you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. The usual oral dose is.

Children and infants up to one year: 2 sachets per day for 3 days, then 1 sachet per day. Older than 1 year: 4 sachets per day for 3 days, then 2 sachets per day. In infants and children, the management of acute diarrhoea must be accompanied by the early administration of oral rehydration solution (ORS) to avoid dehydration.

Adults: An average of 3 sachets per day. In practice, the daily dosage can be doubled at the beginning. Chronic diarrhoea: Adults: An average of 3 sachets per day. Method and route of administration: Oral route: The content of the sachet must be mixed in suspension directly before use. To obtain a homogenous suspension, slowly pour the powder over the water, while stirring continuously.

Children and infants: the content of the sachet may be mixed in a bottle of 50ml of water to be given during the day, or mixed with a semi liquid food, such as broth, compote, puree or baby food.

Adults: The content of the sachet may be mixed with half a glass of water. Take Smecta  preferably between meals. If you have the impression that the effect of Smecta is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor or pharmacist. If you take more Smecta than you should: In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, seek help or contact the nearest hospital or poison control centre. If you forget to take a dose of Smecta: Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.
