Moving Mountains: Mopani Charity Challenge – 23-25 October

It is time for another Mopani Pharmacy Charity Challenge! Compete in this upcoming event by running or cycling on the road, on a trail or even indoors! Each kilometre completed will equal R1 donated by Mopani Pharmacy! You can enter for FREE via this link. There are many fun prizes up for grabs!

Although it is for a local cause, you don’t have to be local to compete – you can participate from anywhere in the country.

As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, Mopani Pharmacy thought it fitting to have Moving Mountains as our beneficiary of this month’s Charity Challenge!

About Moving Mountains

Moving Mountains was founded in 2017 by Izelle Pretorius. This warm-hearted philanthropist acknowledged the need for financial aid in Cancer patients after she, herself, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.

“Some have medical aid, some do not. But most, have to travel to Gauteng for treatment. Or they come from outer lying areas in the Lowveld and need to stay in Nelspruit. We support cancer patients and their families financially, with groceries, fuel and accommodation”, Izelle explained.

The non-profit receives no government funding and relies on community contributions. “Cancer affects both men and women, and most people knows someone that has or had cancer - a friend, a family member. This inspires people to contribute”, said Izelle.

“We were only able to have one fundraising event this year, due to COVID-19. Luckily we managed to get Steve Hofmeyr to perform on 27 November. It is an exclusive event, those who purchased tickets will only be told of the location of the show on the day. We can say, that it will be hosted around 10 kilometres outside of Nelspruit”, said Zani, the events coordinator.

Moving Mountains consists of Izelle and Zani only, both contributing their free time to the orginisation. Izelle is an online teacher, whereas Zani owns a business called Zani’s Kitchen.

“The money raised by Moving Mountains is allocated into trust funds for individuals, should an event be held in their honour, or allocated towards the day-to-day operations. We often get a call, We need fuel to get to Johannesburg, then we meet them at a fuel station and fill up the car”, said Izelle.

“Our aim is not to be CANSA 2.0. We are here to offer emotional and financial support to our local community. We aim to hold your hand, listen to, support and help you wherever we can.”

PS

Mopani Pharmacy will have FREE Breast Light Screening available at our Wellness Clinic from 12-17 October 2020.

The Breastlight works by shining a bright red light through the breast tissue. The light passes through the breast tissue and reveals dark areas where blood is present. The device will pick up the normal pattern of your veins but can also detect darker clusters, which could indicate potential abnormalities that requires a proper visit and check up by the doctor.
