But we do share nature with some, less than friendly creatures. Keeping them at bay isn’t always easy, specially if you don’t want to use products containing nasty chemicals.

Citronella oil: one of the most popular essential oils to use as an insect repellent, has shown to repel mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus, as well as those capable of spreading dengue fever.
Peppermint oil: bugs unlike humans do not enjoy the smell of peppermint, including ants, spiders, cockroaches and even lice. A study showed that an application of 0.1ml of peppermint oil applied to the arms provide protection for up to 150 minutes.
Lemongrass oil: not to be confused with citronella oil, lemongrass. Although they have similar smells it is two different oils. Lemongrass repels mosquitoes and ants and can be applied directly to the skin. Lemongrass also kills fleas.
Neem oil: neem oil has a very bitter smell, resemblant of garlic and sulfur but with the effectiveness of combating bed bugs, sand flies and mosquitoes.
